Yorkville

Yorkville Records was founded in 1965 in Toronto, Canada, by Bernie Finkelstein and his partner, Paul White. Initially focused on folk and rock music, the label became a significant player in the Canadian music scene during the 1960s and 1970s. Notable artists associated with Yorkville include the influential folk-rock group The Paupers, singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot, and the band The Staccatos, who later became known as The Five Man Electrical Band. Throughout its history, Yorkville expanded its catalog to include various genres, such as pop, rock, and country, reflecting the evolving musical landscape of Canada. The label played a crucial role in promoting Canadian talent and fostering the domestic music industry. Although it ceased operations in the late 1970s, Yorkville Records left a lasting legacy by contributing to the cultural and musical identity of Canada, paving the way for future independent labels and artists.
