White Whale

White Whale Records was founded in 1968 by Bob Cohn and his partner, Joe Kapp, in Los Angeles, California. Initially established to promote the burgeoning California rock scene, the label became known for its eclectic roster, which included notable artists such as The Turtles, who achieved significant success with hits like "Happy Together." White Whale also signed acts like The Mojo Men and The Peanut Butter Conspiracy, reflecting a diverse range of genres, including pop, rock, and psychedelic music. The label's most productive years spanned from the late 1960s to the early 1970s, during which it gained a reputation for fostering innovative sounds. However, by the mid-1970s, White Whale faced financial difficulties and eventually ceased operations. Despite its relatively short lifespan, the label's impact on the era's music scene and its contributions to the development of pop and rock continue to be recognized in music history.
