Sterling

Sterling Records was founded in 1946 by the American entrepreneur and producer, Dave Miller. Initially focused on jazz and pop music, the label gained prominence in the late 1940s and 1950s, releasing recordings by notable artists such as the jazz saxophonist Johnny Hodges and the vocal group The Four Freshmen. In the 1960s, Sterling expanded its catalog to include rock and rhythm and blues, signing acts like The Shirelles and The Drifters. Throughout its history, Sterling was known for its diverse range of genres, including doo-wop, soul, and early rock 'n' roll. The label's influence waned in the late 1960s as the music industry evolved, but its legacy endures through its contributions to the development of popular music in America. Sterling's catalog remains a valuable resource for music historians and collectors, reflecting the changing landscape of mid-20th-century music.
