Soul City

Soul City Records was founded in 1967 by music industry veteran Lou Adler and was based in Los Angeles. The label primarily focused on soul, R&B, and rock music, aiming to promote a diverse range of artists. Notable artists associated with Soul City included The Fifth Dimension, whose hit "Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In" became emblematic of the era, and the influential singer-songwriter Jimmy Webb, who penned many hits for the label. During the late 1960s and early 1970s, Soul City thrived amidst the cultural shifts of the time, contributing to the broader counterculture movement. However, the label struggled to maintain its momentum in the mid-1970s and eventually ceased operations in 1973. Despite its relatively short lifespan, Soul City Records left a lasting legacy in the music industry, remembered for its innovative approach and contributions to the genres it represented.
