Private Stock

Private Stock Records was founded in 1974 by former Atlantic Records executive Larry Uttal. The label initially focused on pop and rock music, aiming to capture a diverse range of artists. During the late 1970s, Private Stock gained prominence with hits from artists like the pop-rock band The Stylistics and singer-songwriter Johnny Harris. The label's roster included a variety of genres, from disco to R&B, reflecting the musical trends of the time. Despite early successes, Private Stock struggled to maintain its momentum in the 1980s and eventually ceased operations in 1980. The label's legacy lies in its contributions to the music landscape of the 1970s, particularly in promoting artists who achieved significant chart success.
