Lu Pine

Lu Pine Records was founded in 1952 by entrepreneur and music promoter Jack "The Bear" Brown in Detroit, Michigan. Initially focused on rhythm and blues, the label quickly gained prominence for its roster of influential artists. Notable figures included the legendary blues singer John Lee Hooker and the doo-wop group The Five Satins, known for their classic "In the Still of the Nite." Throughout the 1950s and early 1960s, Lu Pine became synonymous with the burgeoning Detroit sound, contributing significantly to the R&B and early rock genres. The label's output declined in the late 1960s, but its legacy endures through its classic recordings, which continue to influence contemporary artists. Lu Pine Records is remembered for its role in shaping the sound of American music during a pivotal era, bridging the gap between blues and the emerging rock and roll scene.
