Limelight

Limelight Records was founded in 1966 by producer and musician Bob Thiele, initially as a subsidiary of ABC Records. The label aimed to promote jazz and blues artists, reflecting the vibrant cultural scene of the era. Limelight became known for its innovative approach, signing notable artists such as jazz saxophonist John Coltrane, who recorded the acclaimed album "A Love Supreme" under the label, and blues musician Big Joe Williams. During the late 1960s and early 1970s, Limelight expanded its catalog to include a variety of genres, including folk and rock, but it remained primarily associated with jazz. The label's influence waned in the mid-1970s, leading to its eventual closure. Despite its relatively short lifespan, Limelight Records left a lasting legacy in the music industry, particularly in the jazz genre, and is remembered for its contributions to the careers of several iconic musicians.
