Liberty

Liberty Records was founded in 1955 by Simon Waronker, along with partners Al Bennett and David Kapp, in Los Angeles, California. Initially focused on pop and rock music, the label gained prominence in the late 1950s and 1960s, signing influential artists such as The Platters, The Everly Brothers, and Johnny Rivers. Liberty became known for its diverse roster, which included genres like rock, pop, country, and jazz. In the 1960s, the label expanded its influence by acquiring other labels, including Imperial Records, which brought artists like Ricky Nelson and Fats Domino into its fold. The label's success continued into the 1970s with the rise of the country genre, featuring artists such as Buck Owens and Glen Campbell. Liberty Records is remembered for its significant contributions to popular music and its ability to adapt to changing musical trends. The label eventually became part of the larger EMI Records group, but its legacy endures through its iconic catalog and artists.
