International

International Records was founded in 1965 by music producer and entrepreneur Larry Uttal. Initially based in New York City, the label aimed to promote a diverse range of genres, including pop, rock, and soul. Throughout the late 1960s and 1970s, International gained prominence by signing notable artists such as the pop group The Tokens and the soul singer Jimmy Ruffin, whose hit "What Becomes of the Brokenhearted" became a classic. The label was known for its innovative marketing strategies and collaborations with emerging artists, contributing to the evolving music landscape of the time. In the 1980s, however, International faced challenges due to changing industry dynamics and competition from larger labels, leading to a decline in prominence. Despite its eventual dissolution, International Records left a legacy of fostering diverse musical talent and influencing the development of popular music during its active years. Its catalog continues to be appreciated by collectors and music historians alike.
