Fontaine Records was founded in the early 1970s by music producer and entrepreneur Jean Fontaine. Initially focused on jazz and soul, the label gained prominence in the late 1970s with the rise of disco, signing influential artists like The Groove Collective and DJ Marisol. Throughout the 1980s, Fontaine expanded its roster to include pop and electronic music, launching the careers of notable acts such as synth-pop duo Neon Dreams and R&B singer Lila Hart.
