Carnival

Carnival Records was founded in 1959 by producer and entrepreneur Joe Davis in New York City. Initially focused on jazz and rhythm and blues, the label gained prominence in the 1960s by signing a diverse roster of artists. Notable acts included the influential jazz saxophonist Archie Shepp and rhythm and blues vocalist Betty Wright. Throughout the 1970s, Carnival expanded its catalog to include funk and soul, further solidifying its reputation in the music industry. The label's commitment to artistic expression and innovation attracted a variety of musicians, contributing to the evolving sound of American music during this era. Despite facing challenges in the changing music landscape of the 1980s, Carnival Records left a lasting legacy, particularly in the genres of jazz and R&B.
