Capricorn

Capricorn Records was founded in 1969 by Phil Walden and his brother Alan in Macon, Georgia. Initially focusing on Southern rock, the label became a significant force in the genre, particularly during the 1970s. It gained prominence with artists like The Allman Brothers Band, who helped define the Southern rock sound, and other notable acts such as Marshall Tucker Band and Wet Willie. Capricorn also ventured into blues and country, signing artists like Charlie Daniels and the influential band, The Dixie Dregs. The label faced financial difficulties in the late 1970s and was sold to Warner Bros. in 1980, leading to a decline in its original roster and identity. Despite its challenges, Capricorn's legacy endures, as it played a crucial role in popularizing Southern rock and influencing subsequent music scenes. The label's catalog remains influential, reflecting a rich history of American music.
