Canadian American

Canadian American Records was founded in 1958 by Canadian entrepreneur and producer, Leonard L. "Lenny" McCarthy. Initially based in Toronto, the label aimed to promote Canadian artists and distribute American music in Canada. It gained prominence in the early 1960s with its emphasis on rock and pop, particularly during the rise of the "Canadian Invasion," which paralleled the British Invasion in the U.S. Notable artists associated with Canadian American include The Five Man Electrical Band, known for their hit "Signs," and The Staccatos, who later became known as The Five Man Electrical Band. The label also released works from American artists like Johnny Rivers and The Shirelles, contributing to its diverse catalog. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Canadian American played a significant role in the development of the Canadian music scene. Although it eventually declined in prominence, its legacy endures through its contributions to the promotion of Canadian talent and the fusion of musical styles.
