Ariola America

Ariola America was founded in 1977 as a subsidiary of the German label Ariola Records, aimed at the American market. Initially focused on pop and rock music, it quickly gained traction by signing notable artists such as Johnny Rivers, The Three Degrees, and the disco group Chic. The label became known for its diverse roster, which also included country and R&B acts. During the late 1970s and early 1980s, Ariola America experienced significant success, particularly in the disco era, where it capitalized on the genre's popularity. The label's influence waned in the mid-1980s, leading to its eventual absorption into the BMG label group in 1989. Despite its decline, Ariola America's legacy includes a rich catalog of music that reflects the evolving landscape of American pop culture, contributing to the broader narrative of the music industry during its active years.
