ABC Hickory

ABC Hickory was a record label established in 1955 as a subsidiary of the American Broadcasting Company (ABC). Initially focused on country music, it became known for its diverse roster, which included artists such as Johnny Lee, The Oak Ridge Boys, and The Statler Brothers. The label gained prominence in the 1960s and 1970s, capitalizing on the rising popularity of country and pop crossover hits. ABC Hickory was instrumental in promoting the "Nashville Sound," blending traditional country with pop elements, which helped broaden the genre's appeal. In 1979, ABC Records, including ABC Hickory, was sold to MCA Records, leading to the eventual phasing out of the Hickory label. Despite its relatively short lifespan, ABC Hickory left a lasting legacy in the country music scene, contributing to the genre's evolution and helping to launch the careers of several notable artists. Its influence is still recognized in the ongoing development of country music.
