She gained fame with her self-titled debut album in 1988, attracting attention for her music and activism, particularly her public coming out as a lesbian in 1993. Etheridge won two Grammy Awards and an Academy Award for Best Original Song for "I Need to Wake Up" from "An Inconvenient Truth." She has released 16 studio albums, with her most successful being "Yes I Am," which spent 138 weeks on the Billboard 200 and earned multiple certifications.
