Sonora Santanera

Sonora Santanera is a traditional Mexican orchestra known for its tropical music, founded in 1955 by Carlos Colorado in Tabasco. Gaining prominence in the 1960s, the group influenced the genre with tropical rhythms like mambo and cha-cha-cha, becoming particularly popular among working-class audiences in Mexico City. Following Colorado's death in a bus accident in 1986, the band underwent changes, leading to the formation of other groups and legal disputes over their name. Despite evolving membership, Sonora Santanera has maintained its musical style and legacy, accruing numerous awards and performing internationally, solidifying its status in Mexico's cultural landscape.
