Francois And LiettePierre-Charles de Liette, originally PierCarlo Di Lietto, was an Italian-born colonial administrator who played a prominent role in French North America from the late 17th to early 18th centuries. Active from 1685 to 1729, he served under Henri de Tonti, overseeing Fort Saint-Louis and Fort Chécagou, and acted as Commandant of the Illinois Country from 1702 to 1718. De Liette was instrumental in diplomatic relations with Native American tribes and contributed to both military efforts during the French and Indian Wars and explorations in the Mississippi valley.
