Eric Mercury

Eric Mercury (1944–2022) was a Canadian singer known for his contributions to the soul genre, especially as a member of the 1960s group The Soul Searchers. He released his notable debut solo album, Electric Black Man, in 1969, which earned acclaim in the music industry. Mercury achieved significant chart success in Canada and the U.S. with hits like "I Can Smell That Funky Music" and a duet with Roberta Flack, "Our Love Will Stop the World." In addition to his singing career, he was involved in songwriting and producing for other artists. Mercury passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2022.
