Jericho

Jericho is a Palestinian city situated in the West Bank and serves as the capital of the Jericho Governorate. Recognized as one of the oldest cities in the world, it has been continuously inhabited for over 11,000 years and is noted for housing the oldest known defensive wall. The city has a rich archaeological history, with findings dating back to its first settlement around 9600 BCE. Throughout its history, Jericho has been ruled by various powers, including Jordan and Israel, and it came under Palestinian Authority control in 1994. In 2023, its archaeological site, Tell es-Sultan, was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
