Freddie KeppardFreddie Keppard was an influential American jazz cornetist, born in New Orleans on February 27, 1890, and active in the early 20th century until his death on July 15, 1933. He was recognized as the "King" of the New Orleans jazz scene prior to Joe Oliver and had a significant role in popularizing New Orleans jazz by forming the Olympia Orchestra and the Original Creole Orchestra. Despite his reluctance to record music, leading to missed opportunities, Keppard's innovative playing style and technical skills earned him respect among contemporaries, establishing him as a pivotal figure in the jazz genre before the rise of Louis Armstrong.
