Minnie Memphis

Memphis Minnie, born Lizzie Douglas on June 3, 1897, in Tunica County, Mississippi, was a prominent American blues guitarist, singer-songwriter, and recording artist whose career spanned over three decades. Active from 1908 to 1958, she recorded approximately 200 songs, including notable tracks like "When the Levee Breaks" and "Me and My Chauffeur Blues." Renowned for her strong influence on the blues genre, she became known as "the most popular female country blues singer of all time." Despite facing challenges in her later years, her work gained renewed appreciation in the 1960s, ultimately leading to her induction into the Blues Foundation's Hall of Fame in 1980.
