Gallo Robert John

Robert Gallo, born on March 23, 1937, is an influential American biomedical researcher renowned for his contributions to HIV/AIDS research, notably identifying HIV as the virus responsible for AIDS and developing the associated blood test. He has had a long career since active research began in 1963 and co-founded the Institute of Human Virology in 1996, where he continues to lead efforts in HIV-related research and treatments. Gallo's work has earned him multiple prestigious awards, including two Lasker Awards, and he was a significant figure in the scientific community from the 1980s onward, despite controversies regarding the discovery of HIV.
