The First Theremin Era

The theremin is an electronic musical instrument invented by Russian physicist Leon Theremin in 1920 and patented in 1928. It is distinctive for being played without physical contact, using two antennas to control pitch and volume based on the position of the performer's hands. The theremin gained popularity in the United States and was featured in various film scores and television themes. Despite declining use among serious musicians with the advent of newer instruments, it has seen a resurgence since the 1990s, appealing to contemporary artists and hobbyists alike due to its unique sound and performance capabilities.
