The Gospel JewelsThe Trebizond Gospel, designated as ℓ 243 in the Gregory-Aland numbering, is an 11th-century Byzantine illuminated manuscript containing Gospel Lectionary text. Likely created in Constantinople and possibly commissioned by a Byzantine emperor, it features rich decorations, including gold and jewels added by Andronicus II of Trebizond in the 13th century. This manuscript, comprising 15 parchment leaves and noted for its artistic quality, was presented to Alexander II of Russia in 1858 and is currently housed in the Russian National Library. Although not cited in critical editions of the Greek New Testament due to its limited textual value, it remains significant for its historical and artistic context. (Source: Wikipedia)
