D'Artega And His OrchestraAlfonso D'Artega (1907-1998) was a Mexican-American songwriter, conductor, arranger, and actor, notable for his significant contributions to music in the mid-20th century. He is best known for co-writing the hit song "In the Blue of Evening" for the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra and for composing the NBC Chimes Theme. D'Artega was also a prominent conductor, initiating the Carnegie Hall "Pops" concerts and leading several orchestras. His influence extended to World War II, where he organized an all-girl orchestra that performed for U.S. troops.
