The Carpenters

The Carpenters were an American vocal and instrumental duo formed by siblings Karen and Richard Carpenter, active from 1965 until 1983. Renowned for their soft musical style and Karen's contralto vocals paired with Richard's arrangements, they achieved significant commercial success, producing 10 albums and numerous hit singles, including "(They Long to Be) Close to You" and "We've Only Just Begun." Their music dominated the soft rock and adult contemporary charts, resulting in over 100 million records sold globally. The duo's career was marred by personal struggles, culminating in Karen's death from complications of anorexia in 1983, which raised awareness about eating disorders.
