Lewis Joe E.

Joe E. Lewis, born Joseph Klewan on January 12, 1902, was an American comedian, actor, and singer active from the 1920s to the early 1970s. He gained fame as a nightclub performer during Prohibition in Chicago, famously surviving a vicious attack by mob enforcers after rejecting a contract with a gangster-owned venue. His career included appearances in films, frequent performances on television, and a friendship with Frank Sinatra, who portrayed him in the biographical film "The Joker Is Wild." Lewis died on June 4, 1971, at the age of 69.
