Ray Bohr

The Bohr model, proposed by Niels Bohr in 1913, is an early atomic theory that integrates quantum concepts into the understanding of atomic structure, with a small nucleus surrounded by orbiting electrons. It refined earlier models, particularly Rutherford's, and successfully explained the Rydberg formula for hydrogen's spectral lines, although it was ultimately superseded by more advanced quantum mechanics in the 1920s. The model's simplicity allows it to remain a foundational teaching tool for introducing fundamental quantum principles, despite being considered obsolete in scientific detail.
