The BBC Radio Orchestra was a broadcasting ensemble active in London from 1964 until its disbandment in 1991. Designed as a flexible studio orchestra, it combined jazz, big band elements with symphonic strings and primarily accompanied popular singers for BBC Radio 2 during an era that limited commercial recordings on air.
