Shingoose, born Curtis Jonnie on October 26, 1946, was a notable Ojibwe folk musician from Winnipeg, Canada, who had a significant impact on the music scene from the 1960s until his death in 2021. He was recognized for his work with influential artists like Roy Buchanan and Bruce Cockburn, his 1975 album "Native Country," and his contributions to Indigenous music and arts, earning induction into the Manitoba Music Hall of Fame in 2012. Shingoose also engaged in media and policy development to promote First Nations issues, and his song "Treaty Rights" became an anthem for Indigenous rights.
