J BlooThe Sinemurian is an age and stage in the Early Jurassic, spanning from approximately 199.5 to 192.9 million years ago. It follows the Hettangian age and precedes the Pliensbachian age, with its stratigraphic boundaries defined by specific ammonite fossil appearances in the geological record. The name derives from Semur-en-Auxois, France, and was established by the palaeontologist Alcide d'Orbigny in 1842.
