Owens Harry And His Royal Hawaiian Hotel Orchestra

Harry Owens (1902–1986) was an American composer, bandleader, and songwriter renowned for his contributions to Hawaiian music, particularly his famous song "Sweet Leilani." He began his career in vaudeville and gained prominence after moving to Hawaii in 1934, where he served as music director at The Royal Hawaiian Hotel and helped popularize the hapa haole music style. Owens' work earned significant recognition, including an Academy Award for Best Song for "Sweet Leilani," and he is remembered for his extensive catalog of about 300 Hawaiian songs. He passed away in Eugene, Oregon, leaving a lasting legacy in music and Hawaiian culture.
