The Big House is a 2000 Australian short drama film written and directed by Rachel Ward, featuring Tony Martin and Gary Sweet. Set in a prison, the narrative follows long-term inmate Williams who becomes a mentor to his new cellmate Sonny, under troubling conditions. The film, awarded the Australian Film Institute's Best Short Fiction Film in 2001, explores themes of protection and complicity within the prison system and addresses complex human relationships. It was screened at the 2001 Reel Affirmations International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival.
