Dick Flood

Curt Flood was an American professional baseball center fielder and activist, born on January 18, 1938, in Houston, Texas, and passing away on January 20, 1997, in Los Angeles, California. Over his 15-season MLB career, he played for the Cincinnati Redlegs, St. Louis Cardinals, and Washington Senators, earning three All-Star selections and seven Gold Glove Awards. Flood is notably recognized for his significant role in challenging Major League Baseball's reserve clause, which ultimately led to greater labor rights for players, despite losing his legal battle in the U.S. Supreme Court. His activism paved the way for the eventual establishment of free agency in baseball, marking him as a pivotal figure in sports labor history.
