Larry DeanThe Life of Larry and Larry & Steve are animated short films created by Seth MacFarlane in the mid-1990s that served as precursors to his later series Family Guy. The first short, The Life of Larry, was produced as MacFarlane's thesis film in 1995 while he was a student at the Rhode Island School of Design, featuring a middle-aged man named Larry and his talking dog, Steve. The retooling, Larry & Steve, aired on Cartoon Network in 1997 and reflected similar themes and humor, ultimately leading to the development of Family Guy, where Larry inspired the character Peter Griffin and Steve inspired Brian the dog.
