Lewis Little Junior

David Levering Lewis, born on May 25, 1936, is an esteemed American historian and professor emeritus at New York University, recognized for his significant contributions to social history and civil rights. He has authored eight books, including a two-volume biography of W. E. B. Du Bois, for which he received the Pulitzer Prize in 1994 and 2001, making him the first to win Pulitzer Prizes for biography consecutively on the same subject. Lewis has also received various prestigious honors, such as the National Humanities Medal and the Bancroft Prize, and is known for his scholarly insights into comparative history, focusing particularly on the 20th century and themes such as African history and European colonialism.
