Charlie Haden

Charlie Haden (1937–2014) was an influential American jazz double bass player, bandleader, composer, and educator, recognized for revolutionizing bass play in jazz by allowing it to move independently from the soloist. A founding member of the Ornette Coleman Quartet, Haden also established the Liberation Music Orchestra, which blended jazz with political themes. His extensive career included collaborations with notable musicians, significant contributions to educational programs in jazz studies, and multiple Grammy Awards. Haden's work left a lasting impact on the jazz genre, and he was honored posthumously with awards such as the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and the NEA Jazz Masters Award.
