Agrippina is a 1709 opera seria by George Frideric Handel, with a libretto by Cardinal Vincenzo Grimani, centered on the character Agrippina as she schemes to secure the throne for her son Nero by plotting against Emperor Claudius. Premiering in Venice, it was an immediate success, showcasing Handel's musical mastery, although he did not pursue further productions. Initially falling out of favor, Agrippina saw a revival in the 20th century, gaining recognition as one of Handel's first operatic masterpieces and being frequently performed in contemporary opera settings.
