Billy MizeLynwood Thomas "Schoolboy" Rowe was an American professional baseball player born on January 11, 1910, in Waco, Texas. A right-handed pitcher, he played primarily for the Detroit Tigers from 1933 to 1942 and later for the Philadelphia Phillies until 1949. Rowe was a three-time All-Star and contributed to three World Series teams, winning the championship in 1935. Known for his unique charm and distinctive superstitions, he accrued a win-loss record of 158–101 and posted a career earned run average of 3.87 over his 15 seasons in Major League Baseball before his death on January 8, 1961.
