Mike CliffordMike Markkula, born on February 11, 1942, is an American businessman, electrical engineer, and investor best known for his pivotal role in the early development of Apple Computer, Inc. He was the original angel investor, the first chairman, and served as CEO from 1981 to 1983, and played an essential part in securing initial funding and offering managerial support to co-founders Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak. Markkula's influence helped shape Apple's products and corporate strategy during its formative years, and he remained active in the company until his retirement in 1997.
