Otis Spann (1924 or 1930–1970) was an influential American blues pianist and singer, recognized as a leading figure in postwar Chicago blues. He was born in Mississippi and moved to Chicago in 1946, where he became Muddy Waters' piano player and contributed to many classic blues recordings. Spann's distinctive style and prolific session work established him as a prominent artist in the genre, earning posthumous accolades including induction into the Blues Hall of Fame in 1980 and a memorial field named in his honor. He passed away from liver cancer in Chicago and remained an enduring figure in the blues community.
