Oscar Brand

Oscar Brand was a Canadian-American folk singer-songwriter, radio host, and author, born on February 7, 1920, in Winnipeg, Canada. He had a prolific career lasting 70 years, during which he released nearly 100 albums and composed around 300 songs, covering a broad range of topics and musical styles. Notably, he hosted the longest-running radio show with a single host, "Oscar Brand's Folksong Festival," on WNYC for over 70 years. Brand was instrumental in popularizing folk music and has been recognized with multiple awards, including a Peabody Award. He passed away on September 30, 2016, at the age of 96.
