Lester Bowie (1941–1999) was an influential American jazz trumpeter and composer known for his avant-garde approach to jazz. As a co-founder of the Art Ensemble of Chicago and a member of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians, he shaped the jazz scene from the 1960s until his death. Bowie's work spanned various styles, integrating elements from popular music and genres like reggae, and he was celebrated for his distinctive stage presence and humor in performance. Throughout his career, he collaborated with various artists and was posthumously inducted into the Down Beat Jazz Hall of Fame.
