Lars Gullin

Lars Gullin (1928-1976) was a notable Swedish jazz saxophonist primarily recognized for his work on the baritone saxophone. Emerging in the 1940s, he gained acclaim for his collaborations with prominent American jazz musicians and won the best newcomer award from DownBeat magazine in 1954. Despite his success, his career was marred by personal struggles with addiction, leading to health issues later in life. Gullin continued to influence the jazz scene until his death, leaving a legacy that includes various recordings and compositions dedicated to his family. His contributions are honored through continued reissues of his work and depictions in cultural representations of Swedish jazz.
