Pine Top Smith

Clarence "Pinetop" Smith (1904-1929) was an influential American boogie-woogie pianist known for his hit "Pinetop's Boogie Woogie," which was significant in popularizing the term "boogie woogie" and the genre itself. Active primarily in the 1920s, he performed as a musician and comedian, and recorded his most notable works in Chicago before his untimely death from a gunshot wound. Smith's legacy has continued to impact the music scene, influencing notable artists and contributing to the development of rock and roll. He was posthumously inducted into the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame in 1991.
