Al Sears

Al Sears was an American jazz tenor saxophonist and bandleader, born on February 21, 1910, in Macomb, Illinois, and died on March 23, 1990, in St. Albans, New York. Rising to prominence in the 1930s, Sears worked with notable ensembles including Chick Webb's orchestra and Duke Ellington's band, where he played a significant role from 1944 to 1949. He was known for his contributions to jazz music, leading his own groups, and making notable recordings, while also serving as a studio musician in the 1950s and owning several record labels.
