Tab Smith

Talmadge "Tab" Smith (1909–1971) was a notable American alto saxophonist known for his contributions to swing and rhythm and blues music. Active primarily from 1929 to the early 1960s, he gained recognition for his hit tracks "Because of You" and "Pretend" and collaborated with prominent artists such as Count Basie and Lucky Millinder. His significant work included leading his own bands post-World War II and recording extensively for United Records, though his career declined after the label's closure, leading him to retire from music in the early 1960s. Smith died in St. Louis, Missouri, at the age of 62.
