Perez Prado

Dámaso Pérez Prado (1916–1989) was a Cuban bandleader and mambo musician renowned for popularizing the mambo genre during the 1950s, earning the title "The King of the Mambo." His orchestral adaptations of rhythms like danzón-mambo produced significant hits, including "Mambo No. 5" and the chart-topping "Cherry Pink (and Apple Blossom White)." After moving to Mexico, he continued to innovate within the genre but faced a decline in U.S. popularity with the advent of new music styles in the 1960s. Despite this, he remained a significant figure in Latin music, influencing many artists until his death in Mexico City.
