McNeely Big Jay

Big Jay McNeely (1927–2018) was an influential American R&B saxophonist known for his flamboyant style and honking technique. Emerging in the late 1940s, he gained prominence with hits like "The Deacon's Hop" and became a key figure in the jump blues and West Coast blues scenes. McNeely's career included performances at pivotal events such as the Cavalcade of Jazz and a notable return to music in the 1980s after a hiatus as a postman. He was recognized with an induction into the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame and continued to perform internationally until his passing at age 91.
